The Raq is one of those gems that unless your friend tells you about it, you can and most likely have walked by it and completely missed it dozens of times. It is not your fault. It stands on the second floor of an otherwise nondescript mini-plaza on top of an empty lot. The only thing standing out are a few feet of patio on the second floor, heck, even the main entrance looks as if it could be part of said store.
However once up, you will be greeted by a very interesting menagerie of options. Feel like relaxing at the bar? Sure. Play some pool? Why not? Why not relax on a couch instead? Done! Wait, if it is Winter, why not double down and sit down on a couch by the fireplace? Go for it!
What about if you decide you want to dance? Excellent! Just wait until the DJ starts after 22:00 and dance it up! Too hot inside? Go to the aforementioned patio and have a cold one.
When I first found The Raq 9 years ago, with its exposed brick, industrial motif and warm wood decor I could not understand why it was not more known. In fact, most people still do not know about it, thus crowds can and will vary, specially by season.
Note: Check website for dress code, music themed nights and possible cover after 21:00, free before. Make reservations if you want to book a pool table or want a choice of couches.
