UTAC – Celebrating young artists

Hidden away within University College (UC), UTAC (University of Toronto Art Centre) is the intersection between up and coming artists and a permanent collection donated to the university. There is so much passion in the students’ pieces that sometimes I  wish that I was able to see the world through their eyes.

There are two entrances that you can use to get in UTAC. A corridor leading up to the door just outside the UC Courtyard has a small sign pointing foot traffic to enter UTAC. Then there’s the side entrance to UC coming from Harbord, up the stairs on the right. I prefer using the side entrance because it leads you to the very front of the current exhibit.

As previously mentioned, current or graduating students have created some of the pieces displayed at UTAC. That by itself has been one of the motivating factors as to why I continuously come back… well that and it’s free! During my undergrad, I’ve resonated with a lot of the pieces. Artwork on hope, anxiety, the illusion of perception and more. As much as UTAC has been a venue for patrons to see students’ work of art, it is also a haven for progressive creativity and expression.
