If you love wine, if you love spirits, you must pay a visit to Damarco, an old-fashioned shop you will find on a corner of piazza della Repubblica, home of the wonderful market of Porta Palazzo (check the Porta Palazzo article).
Even if you are not used to drinking wine but want to get a deep insight into Italy’s most interesting wines, this shop deserves a visit. Plan to go on Saturday mornings, when the market is at its best, and the shop will be literally packed of people browsing through the two aisles to find their wine. If you want to be more relaxed while making a choice, just pick an afternoon and you will be able to ask questions and figure out your best buy.
Ask the man with the white hair if you want a wise tip on your wine: he knows everything about them and his shop. When you enter the shop, look at the boxes down on your right and left side: you will find bargains in them.
Nothing more to say apart from that 50% of the alcohol and booze you drink in the bars, cafès and drinking spots in the city come from inside Damarco: if half of the professionals in town choose Damarco, then you can bet on their quality.
