Summer is coming, spring has sprung. That means only one thing: Gelato season is officially open.

When it comes to choosing an ice cream parlor in Turin you have to sit down and study. Great quality but not so cheap? Partially artisanal but great tastes? Big, great cones but no dinner afterward? What if you have a celiac friend? Or a lactose sensitive one?

I can tell you how I discovered “Il Gelato Amico” and how I was skeptical and, at last, how I changed my mind.

My best friend has some serious problems in eating dairy products so she found “Il Gelato Amico” by chance because they opened near her workplace and she was amazed. So she introduced me to their product. I’m omnivore but sometimes I’m really hard to convince and try some “alternatives”.

I tried Crema Amica (turmeric, almond, and cardamom). I ate a full bowl. End of story.

Here you can find great tastes entirely vegan-friendly, diet friendly (they have -41% kcals compared to traditional ice cream), gluten-free, lactose-free products. Not only ice cream but also refrigerated cakes and whole flour crepes and fruit and vegetable juices. You can also find a monthly special taste. During Fall starts hot chocolate season, made only with cocoa and hazelnuts and whipped non-dairy cream.

Oh, and compared to other high-quality ice cream shops, it’s really cheap and you can have a fidelity card with a free cone/cup every 10 purchases of at least 2.50€.
