I would like to start this post by saying that Piedmont people are really good drinkers, and are always in search of a new place to taste some new wine or beers and, of course, grappa, which is an alcoholic beverage, a fragrant, grape-based pomace brandy.
One of my favourite and cosiest places is Gli Amici di Bacco. It is a sort of club, you need a card to go in, but don’t worry, it’s cheap and you can get one there). This card allows you to go into many Italian clubs.
Gli Amici di Bacco is a perfect place because you can come in and have a relaxing time, have a good glass of wine and talk with Franco about the story behind the wines. If you are hungry you can also taste the typical Anciu al verde (anchovies with parsley sauce), some cheese and salami truffle.
Let me talk a bit about Franco, the owner. Franco is a particular person, he has a funny way of speaking and if you are lucky you can hear him or his daughter play piano in the club, of course you can play it too.
If you go there you have to taste: Barbera Superiore wine, Genepy (mountain liquor) and of course Nebbiolo’s Grappa.
