Granville Island is my most favourite place in Vancouver, but not just for the legendary market or because there is so much to see, do and taste. I love Granville Island because of the culture- everyone is friendly, helpful, and willing to share their story and their creations with you.
Granville Island is full of artist’s studios and shops, from glass blowing and fashion to painting and metalwork; they all give a glimpse at the amazing local artistic talent. Granville Island also has the highest concentration of live theatres in Vancouver, which showcase everything from musicals and improvisational theatre (which I highly recommend) to locally written pieces.
On the west side of the island there are the adventure vendors- places where you can rent kayaks or board a boat for a whale watching adventure. On the north part of the island there is the market, the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and the Ocean Concrete plant, which is famous for its colourful trucks and its silo murals.
Granville Island also hosts a lot of events. Make sure to check out the website to see what festivals, plays and performances are happening while you are here!
If there is only one thing you can do in Vancouver, make sure to get your hands on a Granville Island map and explore all the peninsula has to offer. You will see amazing art, taste great food and have a fantastic time.
