There are so many great dessert places in Vancouver, and Rain or Shine Ice Cream is one of the best. In fact, to me it is the best ice creamery in Vancouver!
Why do I prefer Rain or Shine over all of the other Vancouver ice cream vendors? Firstly, they have a delicious revolving list of flavours that include beer ice cream! Secondly, Rain or Shine’s ice cream is creamier and keeps its smooth texture much longer, even when re-frozen (you will want to buy a pint to take home). Thirdly, Rain or Shine uses local ingredients as much as they can, which is important to me. And lastly, Rain or Shine doesn’t take itself too seriously!
Rain or Shine’s decor is a mix of typical trendy Vancouver style (white walls, wood accents, chalkboard) and fun ice cream themed elements. There are colourful upside down ice cream cone stickers on the wall, and the mascot is a cowicorn – a purple and white cow with an ice cream cone stuck to its forehead. On their chalkboard is a list of their suppliers and where their ingredients come from. I think they’ve done a great job of being casual, trendy, and fun – after all, they do sell ice cream!
My favourite flavours are the Snickerdoodle and Honey Lavender, but you should definitely try the Blueberry Balsamic too!
Local tip: There are two locations, one on W 4th Avenue and one on Cambie. The Cambie one has much smaller lineups. Hint Hint.
