Vancouver is full of fun Christmas things to do around the holiday season, and one of the most underrated activities is the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden. While it still gets relatively busy as Christmas approaches, the Festival of Lights isn’t nearly as busy and crowded as the flashy winter festivals and Christmas markets that have popped up around town with big rides and overpriced concessions.
For a change of pace and fewer crowds, head to the botanical garden. You’ll be treated to a spectacular display of holiday lights outside of downtown. The garden is set up so that you can walk through and enjoy the different light displays with a hot cider or hot cocoa in hand. In the days leading up to Christmas, parking can be challenging and ticket lines can get long, so plan ahead by buying online and thinking about how you’ll get there.
