Nightlife in Venice is not the best: the city do not offer many places to go after a certain hour. There is a bar, though, that is a bright light in the cold desert nights: Ai Biliardi (in English: pool), always open, till sunrise.
It consists of three connected open spaces and a closed room for the smokers. In the first one stays the counter and few old, dusty sofas, as well as the DJ consolle. Then there is a play area, with two pool tables and a table football. The third space is smaller: it has other sofas, same condition as before, and a little stage for concerts.
The bar often offers quality live concerts, inviting international and Italian artists, that are always refined choices. Customers here are the most varied, it is normal to find young students, confused tourists, drunk talkative fathers, depressed artists, boasty local guys, mad people…just anybody.
Ai Biliardi is truly underground, perhaps sometimes a little bit too much, but its charm even includes its flaws. Actually, here survives part of the soul of ancient Venice, festive and a bit crazy, that made the city famous centuries ago. Go if you do not want to sleep!
