When I want to take a relaxing walk, there is no better place than the Zattere, especially just before the sun begins to set, painting the sky and the lagoon with pink or orange colors.
The Zattere is nothing more than a kilometer walk along the Giudecca canal that starts near the Maritime Station in San Basilio. After crossing some bridges it reaches Punta della Dogana, where the Giudecca canal flows into the Basin of San Marco, offering a magnificent view.
As the Zattere overlooks the Giudecca canal, sometimes I like stopping to drink a spritz with friends outside or just sit down on a bench to contemplate the succession of the palaces on the opposite side of the canal. Or you can have a famous Gianduiotto ice cream at Gelati Nico.
Not to be missed is also the view of the Church of Redentore, very dear to the Venetians.
My favorite moment though is at sunset when the sun goes down on the less picturesque part of Venice, the area of the industrial port of Marghera. I am always fascinated by how the silhouette of the smokestacks and refineries can turn into such a poetic view from Venice!
