Only a few years back this building used to be a student dormitory. I remember going there for a party in the basement which had a huge Marilyn Monroe picture on its wall. All gone – now it’s converted into a hotel. Times change, places too – you either get depressed about it or try to move along. That’s how I ended up checking out this spot.
These days you get a lovely view over Vienna’s rooftops at Dachboden – the German word for attic – which is 25 Hours’ hotel bar. What I really like here: this is one of very few bars in Austria where smoking is only permitted outside, on the roof-deck. The interior is chic and cozy – One word: carpets!
The Dachboden offers some snacks or cakes as well as unusual drinks you may have never heard about, e.g. Fritz Kola. If you want more than just a snack, later on the 1500 Foodmakers restaurant opened on the street level.
My personal favorite: Wednesday night! When vintage mood is taking over and swing and Co are charming your ears.
Please note: the number of guests is limited to 120 by official directive, so admission is restricted when it gets too crowded up on the roof. Just head there early! 😉
