This is the place to get a very different Viennese souvenir! Or where you find help if your shower gel has run out. The name of the shop “Machma” is kind of a dialect saying for “let’s do it”. And that is what they do, make soaps – by old tradition and recipe! When a friend of mine recommended soap from this small shop close to Karmelitermarket, it took me only a few days to visit it myself because I got curious. And of course I chose to be the guinea pig and bought me my first handmade soap. And I do not regret it!

When you enter the shop, the smell and sight of all the soaps is quite overwhelming, but in a very good way. Because it does not smell artificial. And there are soaps in all sizes, colours, shapes, for hair, for body, for people with difficult skin, for children etc. And for children it could be a big wonderland, because it looks a bit like a princess bedroom. Or a king’s bakery with soaps in the shape of cupcakes…

What I really like is that this shop is neither a chain, nor a big company, but run by only two people who are committed to high-quality organic products and good raw materials. All fats and oils used are cold pressed and none of the products have been tested on animals! So get ready and buy yourself soap for the next visit at Amalienbad (check the Amalienbad article).
