This vending machine supermarket in Vienna’s 17th district “Hernals” is at your service 24/7. That is special in Austria, where almost all shops close Saturday at six and stay this way until Monday morning. ServiceBOB has only opened this March. It’s fun to do something different these days when most spots are locked down. Well, at least limited contact with other people is guaranteed here with all the devices serving you.
It works like this:
Enter and have a look at the (for now) 15 machines and what they have to offer. For orientation and selection at the two “cashier” robots, check the number of each vending machine. They also all have a QR code that immediately directs you to its menu and prices. You can either pay with card or cash. To be able to buy specific items, you must prove you are no longer underage; for that, you find a camera checking your ID.
The interesting assortment ranges from usual snacks to steaks and disposable barbecue sets to beer and wine to gingerbread hearts with corny declarations of love to CBD products to whoopee cushions, and even a whole vending machine for sex accessories! Wow.
It seems they try to position themselves as a new must-stop for the many bachelor party gangs frequently touring Vienna’s clubs – just that it’s not exactly located in one of these bar areas.
ServiceBOB is not your daily grocery provider, yet a visit might be fun – and if just to have a look.
