Into French film, art, style? Missing your home country France? Into a new, different approach of stage art and cinema? LE STUDIO Film und Bühne is the place to go!
This lovely spot crosses borders between countries & art categories. The two charming French founders Lise and Pierre provide a very special programme: awarded movies, French originals with German subtitles, and dance, performances and plays by international artists.
First time I came along the impressive old building of Studio Moliere, just a few weeks ago, I was kind of stunned. I had never noticed that building before, had never expected such a hip place in the ninth, somewhat posh and more traditional, district… When I entered the recently restored building, neighbouring the Lycee Francais, I found myself in a plain yet modern room, hall-like with windows as though of a gothic cathedral, attached to a big audience room with comfy seats (around 250) and a good view from every row.
The first film, about the tender farewell solo from legendary dancer Isadora Duncan after the sudden death of her two children and performed by four very different women, just blew me away. Likewise, the beautiful performance on stage by dancer with down syndrome Maria Naber, just before the film. What a beautiful combination: stage & film, stage in film, it all melted together, like different tastes in the mouth. That’s why the sensual slogan of LE STUDIO – the flesh of words, the taste of pictures – is a perfect fit. Can’t wait for more!
