A real gem to everyone in Vienna who sticks to a non-dairy, sugar-free or gluten-free diet is the little coffee/cake/cookie/ice cream place called Zuckero.
2012 Emi and her brother found it to be a pity there were no wedding cakes and the like for people who wanted or needed sweets outside the norm. So they went about founding Zuckero and came up with many great recipes for vegan cakes that they transform into delicious art, beautiful wedding cakes, and cool themed cakes for any occasion, really.
I always have the hardest time choosing what to order, since everything looks super tempting. Wednesdays are all vegan here, hence called Veganday. On other days you will always find several vegan options for your desired pie, biscuit, or cookie. If you wish for something savory before your dessert, have the soup of the day – no need to ask, it’s vegan, every day.
Also ice cream you can get as its vegan version at Zuckero’s branches. You read that right, there is not only this little coffee but also the centrally located ice cream shop where they serve you coffee and tea as well. Find it at Josefstädter Straße 73.
A good reason to head to the 12th district though: You get 10% off if you tell them you came because of Spotted by Locals! And if the soup isn’t enough for you, have lunch before at the nearby Takami! Plus, the subway stop “Meidling” is only a 2-minute walk away (exit "Schedifkaplatz"!).
