If that witch from Hansel and Gretel was to ever build her house made of cakes in Vilnius, surely she’d be wanting to have Atostogos on her team. And not because they’re sinister, but because fairytale houses need top-notch ingredients.
Atostogos (Lithuanian for “Vacation”) came to be when a Russian foodie moved to Vilnius from Moscow with her family. She had a lot of love for the more relaxed pace of life here, and had already spent a lot of vacay time in town before that permanent move. To celebrate that vacation-like vibe, she opened this place.
Now Vilnius has never had a place that markets itself as a desertinė (dessert spot) before, so curious locals are coming in with “we heard you’re good” comments and having a taste. Get on that bandwagon!
Everything on sale here is prepared in an open kitchen, so you can see exactly what it takes to make a good dessert happen.
There’s a dessert of the day – coconut panna cotta or cheesecake on most days, and a special something occasionally – a selection of teas and excellent coffee supplied by the locally-famous Crooked Nose & Coffee Stories.
And macarons, yes. Drop by – it does feel a little like vacay.
