Vilnius University botanical garden is a very special place for many reasons. First of all is has very old history behind. It is hard to imagine, but it was established in 1781! Currently it is not only the oldest but also the largest botanical garden in Lithuania, covering an area of 199 hectares.
Secondly, it is located on the premises of beautiful Kairėnai manor. Thirdly, it has a Japanese garden where tea drinking ceremonies are occasionally held. There is a huge variety of roses, peonies, rhododendrons, fruit trees and bushes and hundreds of other kinds of plants. All in all you can find more than 10 thousand different kinds of plants in the garden. You can even have your own bench to sit in the park, which I find very romantic.
The botanical garden is also a place where a number of music festivals, art exhibitions, seminars and educational programs take place. If you wish you can even have a picnic in the garden or take your kids to the playground. I love this place!
