As everybody already knows, Poland’s film tradition is very long and with well-known directors such as Kieslowski, Polanski, Wajda or the latest Pawlikowski. The list is very long, and the places where you can enjoy cinema during the summer are many.
When the summer arrives, most public gardens turn into cinemas under the stars. You will find a spot for each taste and films from every part of the world. One of my favorite places to go is the Narodowy Instytut Audiowizualny (National Audiovisual Institute) — the location a bit far from the town centre, but it’s in a quiet garden with a nice cafeteria.
The Institute was created in order to digitize the heritage of Polish cinema, and nowadays is in charge for different kind of workshops related with audiovisual/musical education. During the summer it offers a range of projections, mostly in July/August.
I like to go there to enjoy films or just have a break from the noise of the city. It is a different way to get closer to a culture very well portrayed by its cinema.
