Park Fosa i Stoki Cytadeli is a park surrounding the Warsaw Citadel. What an interesting idea to make a park in the former moat of the citadel, don’t you think? Apart from the walls, you can still see other parts of the fortress there. It’s a perfect place for a walk in every season.
The Warsaw Citadel was built after the November Uprising in 1830 as the place where the Russians controlled the city from. It was also used as a prison. Now there are 2 museums located in the Citadel: the Museum of the Tenth Pavilion of the Warsaw Citadel and the Museum of Katyń.
The Citadel and Fosa Park are located in the nice Żoliborz district. I recommend you continue your walk in the direction of Park Żeromskiego. That area is called Officers’ Żoliborz, as originally it was a neighbourhood where Polish officers had their houses. While strolling around streets like Śmiała, Forteczna, and Kaniowska, you can admire the cozy houses and villas typical for this part of the district. It’s a perfect spot for a romantic walk in the evening, and also a great place for architecture lovers.
Just to mention one example: have a look at the building on Kaniowska 21 by the Woyciechowski Square. It’s a unique house made of brick and wood, inspired by the highlander style.
