It might be because Barcelona is my favorite city in the world, but Barcelona Wine Bar on 14th street is my favorite bar right now in Washington, D.C. My friends and I go there just about every Saturday, and we always have the same routine.
We walk into the bar area around 11PM, pushing through the crowd (it’s always packed) to snag a table by the window or find a few bar stools. We tend to split a bottle of the Sauvignon Blanc, or have one of their Bourbon Spice Rack or spicy jalapeño cocktails. We also like to order the tapas at the bar – the croquetas, patatas bravas, brussel sprouts, and crepes dessert are some of our favorites. When an order takes a while or there is something that goes wrong, the bartender or waitress will give us a token, good for a free drink or tapa.
Along with the food and drinks, the atmosphere is what keeps us coming back to Barcelona Bar. The building’s design is very Spanish, with a heated patio facing the busy street. Their playlist is always on point, and the crowd tends to be in their late twenties and up. Beyond the bar, the restaurant is also popular. Their dinner menu has tons of Catalonian favorites for pretty affordable prices, and their brunch menu includes a well-stocked Bloody Mary bar.
Reservations can be hard to get, though, so reserve early if you can. And keep in mind that they’re a cashless restaurant.
