I am a huge music fan, but ticket prices for well-known artists can be quite steep, especially if the artist is performing at the Verizon Center. The good news is that there is live music next to the entrances to the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro station that is closest to the Verizon Center. Also, it does not cost you a penny…unless you want to donate a dollar or two.
There will be a variety of performance styles. Sometimes you get people essentially doing public karaoke (which takes some serious guts) or those who create drums out of old paint buckets and create some pretty cool beats. My personal favorite are the artists who bring their whole garage band and rock out for hours.
The most popular time to catch a decent act are Friday and Saturday nights. Grab yourself an iced chai tea latte from Bakers and Baristas around the corner (check the Bakers and Baristas article) and enjoy the show. There is definitely some fantastic talent that can rival even the New York Subway performers.
