DC Holiday Market – Global food and goods & cheer

The DC Holiday Market is back for 2021, opening from November 19 to December 23. In the shadow of the National Portrait Gallery, the self-proclaimed “one-stop shopping winter wonderland” resembles the court of Camelot from a distance. This year, a diverse group of over 70 vendors will bring their wares. Exhibitions will run either the first half of the show (Friday, November 19 – Sunday, December 5), the second half of the show (Tuesday, December 7 – Thursday, December 23) or for the whole show: a complete list can be found online. A rotating stage presents local musicians and performers, and will host the players from the National Theater’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on November 21.

In fair weather, locals with dogs and baby strollers leisurely shop the prettily laid out tents. With offerings from Tibet to Tunisia and all around the world, something unique for almost everyone can be found. Vendors are largely sole proprietors and artisans offering soaps and bath bombs, jewelry, art, crafts, painting, photography and clothing. Take a break in the middle of the market, where a large installation of adult-height letters spelling JOY attracts selfies and group photos, before the magnificent backdrop of the National Portrait Gallery.
