There are those secret locations in a city that only the locals know. This is one of my favorite in the District. Kogod Courtyard is in the National Portrait Gallery and is architecturally stunning.
I work in the neighborhood so this is a great place to take a break from the workday. On the hotter days, I like to grab lunch from a local eatery and bring it to the courtyard. You will be surrounded by many locals that know how gorgeous this space is, and those lucky tourists that found one of the most beautiful spots in DC to rest their feet.
The natural light, water features and greenery keep me coming back to this location often. Grab a book and bring it to this oasis and enjoy some quiet time to yourself. It’s also a great place to duck in if the weather’s not cooperating. The National Portrait Gallery is gorgeous on it’s own, but you should not miss the opportunity to sit and relax in this beautiful one-of-a-kind space.
