Petworth in DC is a great neighborhood. The tall glass and concrete apartment buildings are absent here. The Georgia Ave corridor is a great area to explore and find different restaurants and cafes.
Petworth Citizen is about 5 blocks from the Georgia Ave-Petworth metro stop. The bartenders here have created a really unique cocktail menu, but they also have a great happy hour menu – the last time I was here I had a pint of the local pilsner and the chicken wings, all for under $15. The wings here are amazing: they come in a honey mustard glaze, lightly fried and not too heavy.
They have booths and a back room with high top tables and books for you to read. In fact it’s also a reading room – the Petworth Citizen and Reading Room – but everyone just calls it Petworth Citizen. I come here during the week, see which of the locals have stopped by and strike up a conversation. You never know what you’ll learn from a native Washingtonian and the history of Petworth.
