When you walk along the Georgetown waterfront in the summertime, you pass lots of boats docked in the Potomac, people in their bathing suits dancing to fun music and sipping cocktails. I always wished they had a boat open for onlookers to join in on the fun. Now it looks like they do – two guys from Arlington just launched the Potomac Paddle Pub.
The boat, what they call a Cycleboat, is basically a floating party. There’s a long bar in the center, with coolers to put in your own drinks and snacks. Around the bar are bicycle chairs and pedals, which you can sit on to pedal the boat around the Potomac. If your party doesn’t feel like pedaling, you can stop and an automatic motor will kick-in. There’s a couch to enjoy the views, lots of space to dance, and fun captains to talk to.
It’s the only paddle pub in the United States right now, and proves how we in D.C. love to combine being outside in nature with partying. You have to sign up ahead of time, so give them a call to reserve. I recommend cold beers and chips with hummus on-board!
