Slipstream is a neat little cafe near Logan Circle that transitions from workers with their laptops and coffee during the day to a relaxed bar with tasty food in the evening.
With counter service only, it’s a good place to meet up with friends, talk about work, get a bite or just get a cup of coffee or some alcohol — or both. They have amusing but surprisingly good combos like a Coors Banquet beer plus a shot of espresso, or a shot of whiskey with one of their pourover coffees. The beans and teas come from small vendors, and the coffee is delicious.
The food is healthy, tasty and varied too, with salads, “toasts” that are kind of like open faced sandwiches on good crusty bread, sandwiches and bowls with beans or rice, eggs, veggies and the like. I like the late night bowl which came with buttered rice, poached eggs, greens and radishes. There are cocktails too.
The vibe is modern but relaxed, lots of wood, white walls and gray floors and lots of space — plenty of room for a laptop or a chat. It reminds me a bit of a European-style cafe (with more working), and just needs a little boutique to be straight out of Amsterdam. And when it’s nice out, they can open up the front so you can enjoy the weather.
