Songbyrd Cafe – Bar, restaurant, records & venue

Songbyrd is a relative newcomer to the Adams Morgan neighborhood, and I’m glad they’re here, it’s a cool spot: a combined record store, cafe, bar and restaurant and concert venue, it has a cool vibe and good food. Plus good shows! The basement venue focuses on rock, Americana and roots music, but has a nice range, plus some surprisingly big artists for a small spot.

It’s also just a nice place to hang out for a drink or a bite, or go shopping for some vinyl. I wish our city had more of this kind of hybrid spot, it almost seems like it’s something from Amsterdam or Berlin.

They also have a neat old machine called a “Voice-O-Graph” that lets you record and press your own record, an antique that used to be at carnivals or other touristy spots decades ago. It’s not necessarily the best audio quality, but where else can you make your very own record!

The record store section also doubles as a cafe, so you can get a coffee or a snack and hang out whenever you’d like.

A neat spot, either as a base for exploring the rest of this busy neighborhood or just hanging out.
