I’ve lived in Yerevan for over 20 years, and only recently discovered one of its best-kept secrets—Hin Nork (Old Nork). While most people think of Kond when it comes to old Yerevan neighborhoods, Hin Nork quietly continues its life on the hills, overlooked and underrated.
Hin Nork was first mentioned in the 18th century, and it still feels like a living museum. Its narrow winding streets, stone houses, wooden doors, and handmade gates are not just architectural details — they’re stories passed down through generations. Many homes still have underground wine cellars, once used by locals who lived off gardening and winemaking. Some residents have even invited me in, proudly showing me their family’s old barrels and sharing stories of their ancestors.
What I love most about Hin Nork is how authentic it feels. It’s not made for tourists. It’s real, quiet, a bit forgotten — but full of life. You'll see kids playing on the streets, the elderly chatting across balconies, and men playing board games in the pavilion.
Yerevan is over 2800 years old, but you won’t feel that age in the city center. If you want to feel the old soul of Yerevan — not the modern city, but the heartbeat beneath - come take a walk in Hin Nork.
