In the city centre you’ll inevitably be attracted by many enticing restaurants, but remember that the best food is usually a bit further away from tourist hotspots. Bigy is located in a neighbourhood east from the centre. Its interior doesn’t stand out, but the fact that it’s existed since 1998 in the big city where places keep on opening and closing speaks volumes about the quality of food.
Bigy is famous among locals for its diverse and tasty pizzas (among the best ones in the city), but they also have excellent meat and fish dishes. Their secret lies in the creative combination of a small number of ingredients which are always fresh. One of the specialties of the house are the salmon fillets with shrimp sauce served with wild rice and chard, a dish they’ve had on offer for already 15 years. There are also various pastas, risottos, salads and desserts, from which I recommend pancakes with ice-cream. There’s nothing extravagant in their meals, nothing for a bombastic review title. The menu is quite standard (something for everybody’s taste), but every dish is prepared impeccably, and it’s one of the few places which consistently keeps the highest level of quality.
I love coming here for a delicious pizza or fish meal. Each time I eat here, I wonder why I don’t come even more often. The interior is a bit old-school and unassuming, but I personally find it charming – they don’t need any glitz—great food is all it takes.
