I have elaborated about the public bath culture of Zurich in my other articles. During the warm season, I am a regular visitor of Bad Utoquai (check the Bad Utoquai article). Then why Bad Enge? After all, Utoquai is facing the sunset while Enge is located on the opposite side of the lake. For a simple reason: Bad Utoquai closes sometime between 20:00 and 21:00. At that time, Bad Enge starts functioning as a café, snack bar etc.
The venue provides a beautiful setting along the lake and a unique perspective of the city: on the opposite side the skyline of Bellevueplatz, on the same side Mythenquai with its several going-out spots.
The place (see photos) is divided in two areas: in the inner area you sit on pillows on the wooden platform with tables at a conveniently adapted height: my favourite. In the outer area, you sit on the wood around an opening full of lake water.
Apart from drinks, the snack bar offers a couple of salad and warm plates. But to be honest, the food is not the reason of your visit: it is the beautiful view, the laid back mood (please tell me the English term for the German “gemütlich”) and the other visitors (yes, you can make new friends).
