Among all the small streets in the Barri Gótic in Barcelona, it is always nice to find a cozy place that not only follows tradition, but keeps it with pleasure. Ginger may be one of the most classic cocktail and wine bars of the old town with an advantage: super fresh tapas and jazz.
This is no ‘formal dining’: it’s sitting down in a dim-lit place, with music at a medium volume to enjoy your glass of wine, cava or cocktail with a nice small temptation. Don’t hesitate in trying the apple tart with foie gras or the tuna tataki. They’ll combine perfectly with a negroni, a cosmopolitan or a well-poured kir royale. Special mention, courtesy of a friend, the strawberry daiquiris. And also, their long list of options of wine and cava by the glass.
The place itself is interesting and lovely: multi-leveled, you can be there with a small crowd or hide yourself from others in a comfortable corner. There are even two entrances: one that will lead you to the “regular bar” and another to a wine bar with the daily choices at your sight.
It’s warm in winter and kept cool in summer with beautiful music at a reasonable volume. They cater both to tourists and regular clients who, from time to time, could bring in even their dog, making the bar even more cozy. (Don’t fear the dogs – they are friendly and know how to behave in public). Ask for the weekly kitchen specials: they are good.
