On ringview.vienna.info you can make an interactive journey through time around one of the most beautiful boulevards in the world (Viennese of course think it’s THE most beautiful) in one of our favourite cities. The boulevard’s 150th birthday is in 2015, and this is a great way to put the Ringstrasse in the spotlight for visitors dreaming of going to Vienna. And locals can learn a lot from it too!
On the Ringview Vienna website you “walk around” Vienna’s Ringstrasse and study magnificent buildings like Imperial Palace, Parliament, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and City Hall from afar or close by. It’s like Google Street View, but better! The pictures are more beautiful, have more detail, and they’ve added great information about the great buildings in this walk in a playful way.
Did you know, for example, that a canon was fired every day at exactly noon – just so that the locals could set their clocks and watches? This practice lasted until 1928. It’s not just history, there’s also a lot of interesting “bizarre” facts. For example: did you know the actors of the Burgtheater could sunbathe on the roof of the renowned theater and take a shower afterwards until 1977?
Time flies when you’re checking out the website. And of course you want to go to Vienna immediately With some luck, this is possible!
