Årstaviken is a part of Stockholm where Lake Mälaren connects with the sea. A stroll around Årstaviken is a very popular pastime for the locals, especially during the weekends. It is a nice nature walk to do, and I suggest that you start on the south side, walking clockwise, as you’ll start with the easier part of the walk, and it is not as crowded as it is on the north side.

The first part can be hard to find, but an app like Google Maps will help you to find the route. The south part has wide paths to walk on and every now and then you’ll find small signs explaining what flora you are walking by. There are some boat yards and even two outdoor gyms. The South stroll is a bit hilly with some steep hills both going up and down. At the end of the south sidewalk, you’ll exit into Liljeholmskajen with some interesting high rises. A residential area with coffee shops and more. Cross the canal onto the other side and walk back on the northern side.

This stretch is very popular amongst Stockholmers. And it can be a bit crowded. You’ll have to share the walkway with joggers, bikers, families with strollers, dog walkers and more. On this side you’ll also pass some cool food trucks and the traditional Swedish Hot Dog carts. A walk going all the way around will be about 2 hours.
