Punavuori district has the absolutely best shops for second hand and vintage clothes in town, all situated close to each other in a very small area. There are at least 5-6 shops in the block between Fredrikinkatu and Albertinkatu.

Kaunis Veera is the oldest second hand shop in Finland, established 1973. It is on the corner of Albertinkatu and Merimiehenkatu. They have a wide range of second hand clothes, both formal and casual, scarves, handbags, shoes, some costume jewellery. There’s also a rack for us more ‘traditionally built’ ladies.The clothes are all clean and in good condition and the prices are very affordable.

When you walk five minutes from Kaunis Veera, at Fredrikinkatu just before the corner of Fredan Tori there is a new, elegant vintage & lifestyle shop called SomaOma that sells selected old and new clothes and even some furniture.

Next door, on the corner of Fredan tori is Ruuturouva, a classic that sells both modern and vintage clothes, handbags and shoes. Lots of accessories like sunglasses, jewelery, feather boas etc. Ruuturouva is also the shop to visit when you want to buy second hand furs and Finnish national costumes.

On the other side of the street lies Amado Second Hand Shop, an oasis for high fashion second hand clothes. This is the place to go to for well known designer labels in both clothes and accessories. The owner, Rita, is passionate about shoes and handbags – and it shows! She also has a huge selection of costume jewelery.

There is only one shop in Helsinki where you can find design, fashion, art, music, books, vintage, gallery and bar under the same roof, that’s Helsinki10. They sell cd’s, bubble gum, expensive clothes from small designers and well-known fashion houses, vintage clothes, bags and shoes from all over the Europe and even weird painted china, like tea cups and pots!

Helsinki10 is a place where you go to wander and touch very odd clothes and accessories, but end up buying something: a key-chain or pair of odd boots. The staff is very helpful and friendly!

Last summer Helsinki10 started to sell Topshop clothes in the store as the only shop in Helsinki. It is a bit sad that they made their vintage section smaller (to make room for Topshop), but I am super-excited about all the new Topshop clothes and it is about the time to have it in Finland as well!

A cool vintage store if you need something extraordinary. Clothes, shoes, bags, purses and even wigs, from the 1920′s to undefined. Style and glamour guaranteed. And the best thing is that a lot of stuff is available for rent, also making it a popular choice for prom nights and parties. The selection is primarily for women, but there’s a small assortment for men as well.

I use to live around here when I was a kid, but this place obviously wasn’t interesting those days. Or at least not as interesting as ninja jumps and courtyard football. I have to admit I’m not even sure how long it has been there. So Play It Again Sam is a very peculiar place to make useful vintage findings or buy some surprising souvenirs for your girlfriend.
