South Park Almaty
Quiet paths and squirrel sightings
South Park is one of those places that don’t ask for attention — they just exist quietly. Tucked along Zharokov Street in a residential part of Almaty, this park feels like it was made for walking slowly, thinking, or saying nothing at all.
I’ve been here a few times, both alone and with friends. It’s always the same: clean alleys, soft light through the trees, the occasional dog walker. There are plenty of benches and several wooden gazebos for a snack or short rest. There’s even a large dog area and, if you're lucky, you might spot a squirrel — rare these days in the city.
South Park doesn’t try to entertain. It offers something more subtle — a calm, shaded path when you need to step out of the city’s rhythm. And sometimes, that’s exactly the right pace.
