If you go to a bar with live music in Almaty, chances are you’ll hear a song by Viktor Tsoi. His music is legendary, and his lyrics continue to speak to people today. One of my favorite places to feel that connection is Tulebayev Street.
Start your walk at Abay Avenue and go down to Zhibek Zholy. Tulebayev is a quiet, tree-lined street in the city center. As you cross Kabanbay Batyr Street, you’ll see a monument dedicated to Viktor Tsoi. A bit further along, there are plaques on the walls with quotes from his songs. They’re simple but powerful — and they always make me pause and reflect.
The street itself is peaceful, charming, and perfect for walking. It’s not touristy, yet it’s close to many key spots like the Arasan Bathhouse and the Green Bazaar. There are also plenty of cafés where you can stop and enjoy the atmosphere. I often come here when I want to feel calm or inspired.
Whether you’re a fan of Tsoi or just looking for a soulful place to walk, Tulebayev Street is worth exploring. It's one of those rare places where the city’s energy slows down and gives space for something deeper — music, memory, and meaning.
