Every year we ask our own Amsterdam bloggers about their favorite independent Amsterdam blogs & websites. Apart from their own Spotted by Locals Amsterdam blog of course 🙂
Here’s a list of their tips – in alphabetical order!
Vicky Hampton from Amsterdam Foodie has been checking out all the newest locals Amsterdam food hotspots for a web eternity (since 2007 – that’s even a year long than Spotted by Locals!). She knows what she’s talking about since she’s a cook, and has even written a cookbook!
We like her reliable, independent tips. When she writes “all opinions are my own” she means it. When she accepts an invitation from a restaurant, she discloses this in the article clearly.
If you’re a fan of photography blogs, Amsterdamian is the perfect local blog for you! Amsterdamian is a blog that captures the city of Amsterdam through beautiful photos by talented photograhper Dana, since 2011. This blog gives you an inside look into this bright and colorful city!
Tracy & Marc have started Amsterdam Wonderland as an easy way to help their friends and family find the best places. A few years on they’ve been nominated for various “Best blogger” awards.
The amount of recommendations is not huge, but it’s definitely quality above quantity. The reviews are extensive and the design of the blog is absolutely beautiful!
Amsterdive is a blog by our very own Spotter Ana. V. Martins, who came from Portugal to Amsterdam as an actress and turned her life around to become a blogger, writer and social media wizard.
Her articles are very personal, and full of humour and depth. She loves her city Amsterdam, but is also critical (check her refreshing article “the downsides of living in Amsterdam” for example). We love her articles about sustainability and conscious living – a few of her many areas of expertise.

Tea, an Amsterdam local originally from Croatia, has been writing her frequent travels since 2016 on her blog Culture Tourist. Many of the articles writes are about her city Amsterdam though – and they’re especially good to stay up to date about what’s happening on the cultural scene in Amsterdam.
The iAmsterdam blog
Not really “indie”, as it’s funded by the city of Amsterdam. But it’s one to check out for sure. Many bloggers (including our co-founder Bart) contribute to the iAmsterdam blog, which has a wealth of cool “best of” lists. For events check out the very comprehensive “What to do” listings on iAmsterdam (which unfortunately doesn’t include all cool gigs in more alternative spots).
