As you’re driving on St. Dimitrios highway in Achrafieh, from Spinney’s towards ABC Achrafieh or in the cab, you might notice a spaceman having man’ouché! Yes, you read that right.
As a celebration of World Man’ouché Day on 2nd November, Zaatar w Zeit (an urban eatery franchise founded in Lebanon) bridged art and culinary heritage together. How? In 2018, they collaborated with an international graffiti artist called T. Durden, who did a graffiti mural art piece in a fun way, and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Lebanese astronaut figured out a way to get a man’ouché up to space with him/her.
Speaking of World Man’ouché Day, a more well-deserved celebration is that this piece of delightful dough, which is part of our almost daily life, whether for breakfast or at any time of the day, made it to the UNWTO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list for Lebanon and this region of Levantine in 2023!
Next time, try walking up towards ABC Achrafieh and taking a picture from the other sidewalk with this spaceman to celebrate al-man’ouché!
