I had never tried Persian food until I visited the Persian Cup. I’d heard it’s similar to Lebanese food in that they serve “kabab” as well. But trust me, the Persian Cup offers you the full Persian experience.

Located in a small alleyway in Ain El Mrayse, Persian Cup is an authentic Persian restaurant. The space is small, offering 3 – 4 tables, but it will definitely be worth the visit. The menu boasts traditional Persian treats such as Waziri, Ghorme Sabzi, and, of course, Saffron rice. The man running the restaurant is very friendly and will immediately rush to assist you.

They offer a plate of white cheese with pita bread and veggies before anything else. We tried the Chelo Kabab Waziri, which is a plate of one chicken skewer, one beef kabab skewer and rice with saffron, and Ghorme Sabzi, a traditional Persian stew made of a beans and herbs sauce, served with chicken and rice with saffron. We also tried tea with saffron.

The food was exceptional. The portions were big and enough to share. The generosity of this place is lovely! The tastes were exquisite. The skewers were juicy and weren’t missing anything. The stew, although untraditional – at least to us – was very delicious and full of flavors.

The whole experience is highly recommended. If you wish to drink alcohol, they allow you to bring your own bottles with you! But don’t miss out on the little saffron sugar stick that comes with the tea, yum!
