Nhà Hàng Vietnam Restaurant is an inviting local spot on Argyle Street in Uptown Chicago. Although this street is dominated by Vietnamese eateries, Nhà Hàng is a quieter, no-frills joint as opposed to the more touristy, upscale restaurants nearby.

The restaurant’s name translates to “Vietnamese Restaurant,” and it would be hard to classify it as anything but. Its menu is comprised of classic Vietnamese comfort foods that span across a booklet of pages. Options include warm, savory phở bowls served with a heaping plate of bean sprouts, basil, and jalapeno slices; banh mi sandwiches with a range of filling options; and various appetizers, including thick spring rolls.

I enjoy visiting with a large group or slurping a bowl of noodles as a solo diner. The family-like atmosphere of Nhà Hàng makes it easy to do both comfortably.

Be sure to try their classic dishes, but don’t be afraid to try some of their more unique items, such as cá kho tộ (catfish soup in a clay pot) – guaranteed to warm you from the inside out!
