If you hated school as much as I did, this might not sound like a good place to visit, BUT the Teachers Club, situated next to the most famous maternity hospital (Rotunda) in Ireland, is really what you might need during your busy day in Dublin. It’s an actual Teachers Club, fully functioning as such; however, it has its secret: the lovely bar on the first floor, which is open to the public. It’s not only quiet and cozy, but has this unique traditional Irish vibe that you can’t come across anywhere else in Dublin, only in small villages of Ireland, yet it’s very central in the city.
The place itself is a bit of a mystery. There are many function rooms in the building, it has a concert/events venue on the ground floor and a tiny theatre in the basement (it fits only a handful of spectators, but check the website for details about incoming plays and events, you might be in luck). But the true magic happens on some late, late evenings, just before the closing time… people start singing old Irish songs. It doesn’t happen every night, but often enough, as it is an Irish tradition in more rural areas. This is an unspoiled piece of Ireland in the middle of the city.
