This international supermarket, located next door to the central mosque, is one of my favourite places to shop in the whole of Edinburgh. It is a treasure trove for spices that can be bought in large quantities for very reasonable prices. It sells giant flat breads, halloumi, paneer, teas, baklava, cooking equipment, packs of olives and cans of stuffed vine leaves. It has its own halal butchers at the back of the store.
But all of this is really a fraction of what is on offer at Maqbools. This is a place for people that still get excited about food and about cooking it. This is where I shop to keep my spice cupboard well stocked what I also like to do when I go here is to plan a meal that I am going to make and let the ingredients on offer guide me. Whether it be giant fresh flat breads or fresh fenugreek, there is always an ingredient or a product that inspires me.
