Forte Belvedere is my favorive spot in Florence. It is a fortress built in the 16th century to protect the center of government in Florence and the Medici family if the city came under attack. It's between the Giardino Bardini e Giardino di Boboli. You can have a different view of the city, and it seems that you can even touch the bridges from there! I like to have a walk in its garden or lie down on the grass. Forte Belvedere usually hosts exhibitions of contemporary art. In these years, it has hosted exhibitions of Giuseppe Penone, Antony Gormley, Jan Fabre, Eliseo Mattiacci, the photographer Massimo Listri and the sculptor Davide Rivalta.
This summer's exhibitions are Human, which brings together more than one hundred works by Antony Gormley in the interior rooms of the building, on the ramparts, on the stairways and terraces, occupying every side of the 16th-century fortress with its extraordinary views of the city and surrounding hills
There is also a bar, so I suggest you climb there after 5 p.m., so you can also watch the wonderful sunset while having a drink on the terrace.
Access to the outdoor area of Forte Belvedere is free.
The entrance to the exhibition is 5€/3€
