Hamburg, with all its tiny canals and, of course, the big Alster, is simply beautiful on a warm, sunny day. Therefore, most of us enjoy the easygoing waterside lifestyle on a sunny afternoon: renting a rowboat or a stand-up paddleboard (for example at 'Bootsvermietung Dornheim', 'SUP Club' or 'Anleger Hamburg'), cold drinks, some snacks — a perfect way to enjoy summer. Once you have your favorite vehicle, you can paddle through the scenic Alster canals lined with fancy villas, trees and boathouses.
If you're up for a sweet treat on your way, then I'd suggest pulling up to Café Canale's waterside hatch: in Hamburg's peaceful Winterhude district, Café Canale offers a charming twist on the classic summer outing. While the café itself is not particularly special, the real highlight lies in the experience from the water: arriving by SUP or rowboat and getting your coffee, cake or ice cream handed straight out of the window.
As all Hamburgers crave the sun so much in summer, sometimes the line can get a little long. However, you're outside on the water, time to relax — just don't forget to bring a hat and some sunscreen.
