Mereler Parc is definitely the best place in Luxembourg City to go with your kids. The park has a huge playground with a large choice of equipment for all ages. But you can also find more quiet places where you can sit on a bench near the nicely arranged ponds, lie down on the grass or in the middle of the beautiful Rousegäertchen (rose garden). In the summer, people meet at the park to practice yoga or just go there for meditation.
The pavilion restaurant in the middle of the park offers a large choice of burgers, carpaccios and very good Alsatian tarte flambée, but if you are a meat & cheese lover, you should definitely try the LuxemBurger with Kachkéis (a Luxembourgish cheese speciality worth trying) and Mettwurscht (a German sausage you'll find at every barbecue in Luxembourg).
As soon as the sun is out, I love going there during lunchtime, eating at the restaurant or just getting a raspberry sorbet at their ice-cream bar, sitting on the grass while reading a book or simply observing people passing while hearing kids' laughter in the background. My batteries are recharged for a whole week (at least that's what I think before my 3 kids come back from school:) ).
The park is located in Merl district, only a 15-minute-walk away from the city centre. The playground will undergo some renovation work beginning in autumn 2023 and will further be increased to cover a total of 8.000 square meters in summer 2024.
