Wherever you go, whomever you meet, there seems to be a general consensus that when deciding what to grab to eat together, you very often land on the most beloved pizza. Munich may not be the home and inventor of pizza, but our neighbours in Italy most certainly are. And in Munich there seems to be an explosion of who and where one can find the best pizza, and boy do I have a winner.

La Calabrisella: A tiny shopfront, with pizza boxes stacked to the ceilings, tea towels with maps of Italy hanging from the walls, bottles of wine along the walls, a tiny bar to sit and wait at, and the master: your free-spirited, golden-hearted pizza maker who sings and whistles as he works away right before your eyes, not a care in the world.

You will find La Calabrisella down a sidestreet in the neighbourhood of Untergiesing, Munich, fronted by a lovely Italian pair who make all your Italian pizza dreams come true: a classic Italian menu (though they make to order) and just a hop skip and jump away from a popular stretch of the Isar between Wittelsbacherbrücke and Reichenbachbrücke.

So why not grab a pizza, make your way to the Isar and take in the early evening hours of Munich as the city’s day comes to an end? I certainly love to.
