Since I enjoy art and exploring art galleries, I love that New York is filled with them. Not only that; with so many featured artists and exhibitions, opening and closing receptions occur very frequently, allowing plenty of opportunities to enjoy complimentary wine while viewing the work of artists and learning more about their backgrounds.
While Thursday is the most popular night for opening and closing receptions (6-8 pm), events happen on other nights of the week as well. Multiple websites like NY Art Beat, Art Net, Club Free Time, Time Out, and Art Cards help me figure out where to go and what to see. While Chelsea (between 10th and 11th Ave from 19th to 26th street) and the Lower East Side are known for having the most art galleries, exhibitions can be found anywhere from Harlem to Bushwick. However, it is best to stay in one neighborhood to minimize travel times, and be able to visit more galleries in one night.
