Uncle Gussy's New York
The best gyro in NYC
While I have worked only two blocks from this Greek food truck's Midtown location for the past two years, I recently ventured there for the first time. I regret not trying Uncle Gussy's sooner. My veggie gyro disappeared about five minutes after I got it, it was so good. And for only $7, the quality is unbeatable. The pita is perfectly toasted (crisp and not soggy at all), and is filled with the right amount of lettuce, tomato, kolokithokeftedes (fried Greek zucchini fritters), and tzatziki sauce. It is well worth the long lunch lines, however if you go before noon or after 1pm, the line is usually fairly manageable. (They also have another location in New York, in Long Island City, Queens).
The guys who work at the truck are also incredibly friendly and welcoming. They also work very quickly and efficiently, ensuring that the line moves fast. While I have also ordered their platter, I much prefer the pita sandwich. They also have Greek salad, rice platter, and a rice platter with fries option.
