The Belvedere of Belleville is, no arguing, the best sunset spot in Paris. You have a view over the whole city (and all of its trademark monuments), in an urban, street setting.
You'll always find couples cuddling on one of the pillars, a group of friends sharing a beer or two, and a lonesome fella reading a book and enjoying the view. The Belvedere itself is covered in graffiti and amazing street art. You'll be amazed how few people actually know this place.
Located just above the Parc de Belleville, another favorite of mine, where, during the summer, you can enjoy the sunset from the park. It's always full of young people, students and artists. Belleville is also my favorite neighbourhood, where all the "cool kids" hang out. You'll find a lot of brasseries and cheap bars just strolling around. I recommend you walk towards Ménilmontant, where all the laid back, cheap bars are.
After having enjoyed the sunset or the view, you should definitely turn your heels and take the street that goes straight behind the Belvedere. At the end of said street (Rue des Envierges), you'll end up in a tiny square/roundabout, where two of my favorite bars happen to be. One is a brasserie open all day, and the other is a bar that only opens at night. Both are worth experiencing!
