This is quite a peculiar spot that any true bookworm in Paris must know. On any given day, if you get off at the metro Colonel Fabien on the 2 line (or blue line), you will find a permanent, albeit impromptu, used books "market". Depending on what day of the week you go, the number of sellers and the size of the stand vary. Usually, if you go on weekends, they take over the whole street, whereas on weekdays, it's more likely you'll find one or two people, but the selection is still amazing.
For as little as 1 to 3 euros, you'll find an amazing collection of used books, vintage magazines, comics and whatnot (not just in French!). The vendors usually start putting up their stands in the late morning, so if you go there in the afternoon, then you'll be sure to find your treasure. I always walk by this "market" and I have to restrain myself from buying another book, because the selection is really quite amazing. My suggestion is you stop by there mid-day, grab a book and go read it at the Buttes Chaumont park that is just up the road, and also happens to be the best park in Paris...
